With a 14-inch diagonal wide viewing angle SXGA+ display, the Tecra M4 simulates the dimensions of a paper notepad in Tablet PC mode, offering the viewing and writing area equal to an 8.5- by 11-inch piece of paper. Equipped with Microsoft(TM) Office OneNote(TM) 2003 software, users can write and draw just like they would with pen and paper, as well as edit, organize and even search through handwritten notes on their Tablet PC. OneNote 2003 also allows users to record audio notes as well.

The Tecra M4 is one of the company's premier systems and encompasses many features from Toshiba's exclusive EasyGuard(TM) technology. Toshiba EasyGuard(8) technology is a series of hardware and software enhancements to business-class notebooks that help boost mobile security, system integrity, network connectivity and overall ease of use. Toshiba EasyGuard consists of four elements: Protect & Fix, Secure, Connect and Optimize.

Protect & Fix

Utilizing a two-level approach to protection, the Tecra M4 incorporates specially designed shock-absorbing materials to help safeguard critical components such as the hard drive and LCD display. Internally, for better isolation, the hard drive and screen are housed within their own shock absorption casings. Externally, users will see an industrial design that includes graceful curves on the four corners of the notebook to establish protection zones to separate internal components from the outer enclosure.

The Toshiba Hard Disk Drive Protection System helps safeguard the Tecra M4's hard drive against possible damage resulting from accidental dropping, turbulence or vibration. Through the integration of a 3D accelerometer, the Toshiba HDD Protection System detects when the Tecra M4 experiences unsafe, sudden "acceleration" in any direction. Once danger is detected, the hard drive immediately places itself into a protected mode and parks the hard drive head until the system determines it is safe to resume normal operation.

 

Secure

The Toshiba Trusted Platform Module (TPM) encryption solution provides users with a high level of data encryption for storage of files, identity protection and securing vital corporate and personal information. Through file encryption, both data and personal identity are shielded against compromise due to external software attack or physical theft.

Connect

Toshiba's new Tecra M4 features a complete suite of communication technologies including Intel(R) PRO/Wireless 2200BG Network Connection (802.11b/g) wireless(1), Gigabit Ethernet and fast infrared. In addition, the Tecra M4 features Toshiba ConfigFree(R), Toshiba ConfigFree with Summit and Toshiba's patented Diversity Antenna for optimum wireless(1) Wi-Fi(R) access and functionality. Toshiba's patented Diversity Antenna design delivers better wireless signal reception through the integration of strategically placed dual-band Wi-Fi antennas in the notebook's display. ConfigFree is Toshiba's intuitive graphic connectivity management utility designed to simplify the connectivity experience when using both wired and wireless Ethernet. The ConfigFree Summit feature allows users and workgroups to collaborate when connected via Ethernet wired LAN or Wi-Fi wireless LAN.

Optimize

The Tecra M4 offers a series of software enhancements, enabling users to customize notebook settings for maximum system performance. The Tecra M4 features a Screen Rotation Utility, allowing users to rotate a notebook's screen image 180 degrees in order to share information on the screen with others seated across a table or desk. The Tecra M4 also features a Zooming Utility, allowing users to zoom in and out the screen image. Other features include a One-touch Screen Resolution Switch, an Optical Device Power On/Off Utility to enable or disable the ODD for extra power saving, an ODD Rotation Speed Control Utility (used to reduce noise and vibration), and an Advanced Power Saver Utility designed to optimize performance and battery life.

Enhancing Performance

The Tecra M4 incorporates the new Intel(R) Centrino(TM) Mobile Technology Pentium(R) M processor(2) and the new Mobile Intel 915PM Express chipset. These recent innovations will increase performance and improve wireless interoperability, enabling the Tecra M4 to deliver the maximum level of computing performance, all in an innovative and accommodating form factor.

Another impressive element of the Tecra M4 is the integrated NVIDIA(R) GeForce(TM) Go 6200 TE 64M (with 64 MB dedicated VRAM) graphics(3) processor unit, which features the advanced video capabilities of NVIDIA's PureVideo(TM) and TurboCache(TM) technologies combined with Microsoft DirectX 9 Shader Model 3.0 to deliver brilliant video and 3D graphics for a stunning visual experience.

The Tecra M4 features a 60GB Serial ATA hard drive(4), 512MB DDR2 533 MHz memory(5) (expandable to 2GB), and Microsoft(TM) Windows(R) XP Tablet PC Edition 2005 operating system. Additionally, the Tecra M4 includes the Toshiba Slim SelectBay(R) which houses the DVD SuperMulti (Double Layer) drive. The integration of an optical drive increases convenience, portability and versatility. With its list of state-of-the-art features, the Tecra M4 offers business users a full-performance convertible Tablet PC in line with Toshiba's commitment over the past 20 years to providing computer users the best in mobile computing.

Toshiba recommends the Advanced Port Replicator III and Tablet Multi Dock II accessories for use with the Tecra M4. Another useful accessory is an emergency Tablet pen, in case the original is misplaced.

The Tecra M4 is now available and may be purchased from traditional sales channels, which include dealers, VARs and distributors and through ToshibaDirect (www.toshibadirect.com). The Tablet PC is available for $1,999(6).

The Tecra M4 comes with a three-year limited warranty. Customers can choose from several service options, including carry-in support at Authorized Service Providers throughout the country or more than 3,000 UPS Stores for packaging and delivery of the product to a centralized Depot for prompt turnaround.

Toshiba also offers Ask Iris(R) Online, an instant response information service that can alert users to security software patches or provide other information regarding their product from Toshiba technical support staff.

With the installed OneNote™ 2003 software and Microsoft Windows XP Tablet PC Edition 2005, Satellite R15-S822 users can:
