Stay Connected, Debuts "Dorm Storm" Makeover Series
This summer, HP is showcasing a variety of desktop PCs, stylish
notebook PCs and easy-to-use printers, along with connected accessories and a
fast-paced new Internet series called “Dorm Storm” – all of which feature the
performance, value and innovation students need to succeed inside and outside
the classroom.
To sweeten the deal, eligible students and teachers can receive discounted
pricing of up to 15 percent on HP’s consumer products by registering for the HP
Home & Home Office Store’s Academic Purchase Program at www.hpshopping.com/student.(1)
A PC for every student
HP’s broad selection of notebook and desktop PCs combine the latest innovations
in durability, style, performance and entertainment.
The ultra-portable HP Pavilion tx2500 Notebook PC (starting at $939(2)) features
a high-definition(3) touchscreen display that can be twisted for easier viewing
in cramped places, or folded into a slate, making it handy for students to jot
down notes, sketch or graph.
The HP Pavilion dv5 Entertainment Notebook PC (starting at $599(2)) offers a
15.4-inch diagonal display, exquisite design and a powerful on-the-go
entertainment experience.
The HP Mini-Note PC (starting at $499(2)) features an
almost-full-size keyboard – just 8 percent smaller than the traditional size –
making it the ideal PC for students to use in the classroom and at home. First
introduced to the education market in April, it is now available for purchase
through select local and online retailers nationwide
The HP xb4 Notebook Media Docking Station (starting at $249(2))
provides a convenient port for connecting USB, video, audio and power through a
single cable, helping students make the most of their entertainment.
With the touch-enabled, all-in-one HP TouchSmart PC (starting at
$1,299(2)), quickly check the weather; play music and create playlists; crop,
edit and share photos; or watch TV – with only a tap or swipe of a finger.(4)
Bring out the keyboard and mouse to use the TouchSmart as a standard PC for
writing papers and checking email.
Perfect for dorm rooms, the super-compact HP Pavilion Slimline PC
(starting at $499(2)) delivers an array of entertainment options in a unit that
is two-thirds smaller than an HP conventional tower PC.
Printing and imaging solutions for every student’s needs
For back-to-school shoppers, HP offers a wide range of printing solutions that
can provide quality, functionality and affordability. Featuring HP Smart Web
Printing, these printers automatically adjust web pages to prevent cut-off edges
and enable users to easily select and print only the content they want – saving
paper, ink and time.(5)
Ideal for the multitasking college student, the HP Photosmart C4480 All-in-One
(starting at $99(2)) is a compact printing system that includes scanning,
copying and printing functionality, as well as a 1.5-inch color display that
makes editing and printing photos without a PC effortless. The printer also
features HP Auto Sense Technology, which automatically detects the paper being
used and then selects optimal print or copy settings.
The HP Photosmart D5460 Printer (starting at $99(2)) is an
easy-to-use, everyday printer that is great for printing homework assignments, a
thesis and even photos. This reliable printer includes features such as a new
five-ink printing system for enhanced image quality and permanence, and the
ability to print photos and text directly onto CDs and DVDs.(6)
For families that have multiple school-age children and are
seeking a complete solution without the fuss of wires, HP offers the HP
Officejet J4680 All-in-One (starting at $129(2)) with built-in Wi-Fi.(7)
Featuring wireless printing, copying, faxing and scanning, the compact J4680
helps students deliver their book reports, presentations and pictures with fast
print and copy speeds.
The HP 2101nw Wireless G USB Print Server (starting at $79(2))
allows users to wirelessly share printers connected on the same network –
whether in their dorm room or house.(7) Easy to install, the server features a
protected 802.11g wireless connection and is compatible with most HP inkjet and
LaserJet printers as well as most wireless desktop or notebook PCs or Macs on
the same network.
Accessories to help students stay in touch, remember loved ones
HP WebCams and Digital Picture Frames help friends and family stay in touch and
personalize their computing experience.
With the HP Elite and Premium webcams, students can take crisp, sharp pictures
or conduct video chats with friends and family back home or across campus. (8)
Featuring autofocus and 2- or 3-megapixel sensors to deliver the best detail,
the webcams are also equipped with easy-to-access buttons that allow users to
launch their favorite messaging program, start recording a video blog and snap
photos. Special effects like raindrops and fun-house mirroring spice up
video-chatting experiences.
HP Digital Picture Frames with remote controls let students show
off single photos, create slide shows and play videos – with no computer needed.
The picture frames come in a variety of sizes, feature clock and calendar
options, and support MP3 and other audio formats and play the music through
stereo speakers.
HP PCs, printers and accessories are available direct from HP via
www.hpshopping.com or at select retail outlets nationwide.
“Dorm Storm” makeover series
HP worked with Broadband Enterprises to produce a lightning-paced online series
that takes cutting-edge HP technology and lap o’ luxury interior design, then
slams it all together – crash-course style – transforming the campus digs of
lucky college students across America.
The new dorm room makeover series, dubbed “Dorm Storm,” debuts today, surprising
students from colleges and universities across the United States with dorm
makeovers, complete with new HP technology that fits their passions. Whether
their interest is in broadcast journalism, photography or gaming, the students
watch as their rooms are transformed into tricked-out, palatial hotspots.
Hosted by Sena Khoda (best known for appearing in the “Obama Girl” viral
videos), the first season of “Dorm Storm” can be seen online at HP’s “Crash
Course” back-to-school online destination, www.hp.com/shaun.
HP service and support
According to a 2007 National Telephone Omnibus Study conducted by the Omnibus
Company, one in four students report physical damage to their computer while in
college. In an effort to help students protect their investments, HP is offering
discounts of up to 45 percent on its two- or three-year Accidental Damage
Protection, House Call, or Next-Day Exchange extended service plans when
purchased with select consumer notebooks, desktops and printers purchased
between July 29 and Sept. 30, 2008. These offers are available exclusively
through www.hpshopping.com.
With HP Extended Service Plans, students can feel confident their equipment can
be up and running quickly – if a student accidentally drops their notebook PC
off a balcony or dunks it in the pool, the product is covered. HP also provides
built-in tools, such as HP Total Care Advisor, which allows students to navigate
through PC care, check up on health and security, get product information, view
connections and get updates from a single access point.
Students can reach support agents 24/7 by phone, email or real-time chat, or
find a variety of self-help tools online as part of HP Total Care, the suite of
in-or-out-of-warranty service and support options. More information is available
at www.hp.com/go/totalcare or by calling +1 866 234 1377 in North America.

IMAGINE…
A SMART KEYBOARD
The efficiency of the Fitaly on-screen keyboard lies ini ts layout and its enhanced features. Most people think10 fin gers are necessary to do extensive texting. Fitaly
allows 10-finger speed with a single pointer. As one user
puts it: “Simply nothing better. I’ve tried many different
input programs and fitaly stands out well above the rest.”Optimized for the pen
The patented keyboard is optimized for pen, stylus, or
one-finger typing by placing the most frequently used
letters in a very tight central area. Moving your pen or
finger within a circle with a 3/8 inch radius will reach
fourteen letters that comprise 84% of the letters normally used in English (and all indo-european languages) plus
two space bars.
